POSITION OBJECTIVE(S): The EY/ES substitute teacher is responsible for maintaining a flexible early years/elementary classroom that promotes learning and personal growth. He/she establishes an effective rapport with students and develops positive relationships with parents and other staff members. The substitute teacher motivates students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge as well as to develop understanding. He/she follows the lesson plans shared by the grade-level teacher or works as an assistant. The substitute teacher will also communicate with the learning support teachers, co-teach with EAL teachers and other specialists’ members in teaching the current EY/ES curriculum. While serving as a substitute, he/she will analyze and moderate student work to promote the educational needs of students. The substitute teacher will have a strong understanding of best practices, particularly in literacy and numeracy instruction, and be familiar with using a workshop approach within a classroom context. Familiarity with the school philosophy and mission statement is essential.
